Week 3: The season so far
What can I say when asked about our season so far except to point out that the last time Liverpool got off to a start like this the Beatles were just getting ready to release “Love me do” in October of 1962.
OK so we have signed Agger, Skrtel, and Suarez to new contracts yet we failed miserably when it came to transfers, and I do not think we will ever know who is to blame for not signing the American midfielder Clint Dempsey from Fulham.
Here was a player that was relishing playing for the Reds, who’s jersey sales in North America alone would have covered his wages, and yet somehow it never came off, were we too busy waiting on Chelsea, and Sturridge?
I honestly do not think we can blame Rodgers for this as I heard him say in a press conference.
‘I’ve been given as much confidence as I can possibly get that we will have someone to come in.’
‘I’ve said all along that I have Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as front line strikers, and the young lads like Adam Morgan are getting experience, but between now and January I need more than that.
‘Hopefully on Friday we can do some work and get something complete because we certainly need it. I am hoping for one or two. We need one, that’s for sure.’
‘We need other players to come in and help the group,’ Rodgers added. ‘We hope over the next 24 hours that can happen.’
Well now we know what happened we are without the striker that we so desperately need, and when I hear the names that are mentioned as being looked at I cringe in horror. Sure you can start to see some of Rodgers tactics in how the team is playing, and I am a big fan of this type of football, but without some new players we are looking like a mid-table team.
